Erect length chart (inches)

How rare is 6 inches? What share of men are under 5? This chart answers it for every common size, based on the largest systematic review of measured men (Veale et al. 2015, BJU International, n = 15,521). All values are erect and measured by researchers, not self-reported.

How to read this chart

"Longer than 90% of men" means that if you lined up 100 men, 90 would be shorter. It's a position in a queue, not a grade. The middle of the curve is wide: everything between roughly 11.5 and 14.8 cm is statistically ordinary.

The percentages come from a normal distribution fitted to the measured data. That works well in the middle, but at the extremes (below 10 cm or above 17 cm) real-world data is thinner and the numbers are less precise. More on that in understanding percentiles.

Why most men misjudge where they stand

  • Looking down at yourself foreshortens length. A side view or a ruler is far more accurate.
  • A pubic fat pad can hide part of the shaft. Measure from the pubic bone, pressing gently into the fat.
  • Porn and social media show the far right tail of the curve as if it were normal.

The exact protocol: how to measure accurately.

Frequently asked questions

What percentage of men have 6 inches or more?

About 10%. 6 inches (15.2 cm) erect is around the 90th percentile.

What percentage of men are under 5 inches?

About 40% of men are under 5 inches (12.7 cm) erect.

Is a 6 inch dick big?

Yes, statistically. It's longer than about 90% of men. The average is 5.2 inches.

What's the average penis size?

13.1 cm (5.2 in) erect length and 11.7 cm (4.6 in) erect girth, based on 15,521 men measured by researchers.

Are these numbers self-reported?

No. The review only included studies where size was measured by a health professional. Self-reported surveys tend to overestimate.
