Penis Size and Height: Does Being Tall Mean Being Bigger?

Taller men are slightly longer on average, but height predicts size poorly. What the data from 15,521 measured men says, plus shoe size, hands and weight.

It's one of the oldest assumptions: tall men must be bigger. The data says there is a link, but a weak one. Height tells you very little about any individual man, and the same goes for shoe size and hands.

Quick answers

  • · Taller men are slightly longer on average, but the link is weak
  • · Plenty of short men are above average, and plenty of tall men below
  • · Shoe size shows no meaningful link to penis size
  • · Body weight matters more for how big it looks than for how big it is

What the data says

The largest review of measured men (Veale et al. 2015, up to 15,521 men) looked at what penis size is linked to. Erect and stretched length were most consistently linked to height. But the correlations were weak to moderate, roughly 0.2 to 0.6 depending on the study. In plain terms: if you lined men up by height, the taller half would be a little longer on average, but there would be huge overlap between the two groups.

Why height is a poor predictor

A correlation of that size means height explains only a small part of the differences in penis size. Two men of the same height can easily differ by several centimetres, and a man of 1.65 m can be well above average while a man of 1.95 m is below. Knowing someone's height, you can't guess their size with any real accuracy.

Shoe size, hands and other myths

  • Shoe size: A study that measured men directly found no meaningful link between shoe size and penis length (Shah and Christopher 2002).
  • Hands and fingers: Studies on finger length ratios exist, but the findings are small and inconsistent. No hand measurement predicts size in a useful way.
  • Nose, thumbs, ethnicity: Popular theories, no reliable evidence for individuals.

Why tall men can look smaller

Proportions play tricks. The same penis looks smaller on a tall, broad body than on a short, slim one, because the eye compares it with the frame around it. Nothing about the size changes, only the reference.

Why your penis looks smaller than it really is →

What does change how big it looks: weight

Part of every penis sits behind the pubic fat pad. The more fat there, the more length is hidden. That's why weight loss is the one change that reliably makes a penis look bigger: it reveals length that was always there.

Frequently asked questions

Are taller men bigger?

Slightly, on average. Height and penis length are linked, but weakly, so it says very little about any individual man.

Does shoe size say anything about penis size?

No. A study that measured men found no meaningful link between shoe size and penis length.

Can a short man have a big penis?

Yes. Height explains only a small part of the differences in size, and many shorter men are above average.

Does weight affect penis size?

Weight doesn't change the size of the penis itself, but fat around the base can hide part of the length. Losing weight often makes it look bigger.

What is the average penis size?

13.1 cm (5.2 in) erect length and 11.7 cm (4.6 in) erect girth, based on 15,521 men measured by researchers.
