Does Size Matter to Partners?

Far less than you think. And far less than men imagine.

This is one of the most studied questions in sexual psychology, and the findings point the same way every time: men worry about penis size dramatically more than their partners do. Here is what the studies actually found.

In a 2015 study, 75 women did something no earlier survey had managed: rather than reporting abstract numbers, they picked physical 3D-printed models. For a long-term partner, the preference landed at 16.0 cm (6.3 in) length and 12.2 cm (4.8 in) girth. For a one-time partner, 16.3 cm (6.4 in) and 12.7 cm (5.0 in).

Now the perspective: the real-world global average is 13.12 cm. The supposed ideal is barely above average, not some faraway outlier. (One caveat: 75 women is a small sample, so read the decimals as indicative, not gospel.)

A separate 2013 study rated male attractiveness and found that penis size interacts with body shape and height, and that its effect flattens quickly. The preference curve has rapid diminishing returns: gains shrink as size grows, and beyond the normal range they plateau and even reverse.

More is not more. The curve bends, early.

In a 2006 survey of roughly 52,000 people, 85% of women said they were satisfied with their partner's size. Only 55% of men were satisfied with their own, and 45% wished they were larger.

Read that again. Partners are content. The anxiety is self-generated.

When 375 sexually active women were asked directly, only about 1 in 5 called length important at all, and just 1% called it very important. Among those who did care, girth edged out length.

In real relationships, the factors that dominate satisfaction are emotional connection, communication, and attentiveness, by a wide margin. Physical dimensions sit far down the list.
